These Lawmakers Are Fighting Data Centers. Their Portfolios Tell a Different Story.

We found ten members of congress who support major restrictions on data centers while holding financial stakes in them. what do they really believe?

Several of Congress’ biggest proponents of data center restrictions hold significant investments in companies that stand to benefit from the AI boom, according to financial disclosures released this month.

Pirate Wires identified 10 members of Congress with clear financial exposure to AI companies and data center firms or funds who have also sponsored bills that would slow or impede data center construction (or otherwise expressed public skepticism toward data centers). These disclosures detail the assets each member, their spouse, or dependent children owned in 2025.

The portfolios reveal how these lawmakers seek to capitalize on data centers’ economic potential while supporting policies that would restrict their constituents from the same benefits. They also, obviously, call into question whether the lawmakers’ suspicion towards data centers is genuine or simply a politically motivated response to popular backlash.
