The 1992 food pyramid used grains as the foundation of the recommended diet, with up to 11 servings suggested per day. In contrast, the recent guidelines placed grains at the bottom of the list, advising between 2 and 4 servings. While both pyramids encourage similar amounts of fruits and vegetables, the most major difference lies with red meat and high-fat dairy. The old pyramid limited the consumption of proteins, while 2026 has seen meat and dairy become the centerpiece of daily recommendations.
