The Prayer I Prayed the Night Charlie Kirk Died
I prayed for my country; I prayed that we would let God prevail and that somehow, through Him, our country could heal.

September 10, 2025, changed my entire life, but there is one moment from that night that I think about often. When I finally got home from UVU, I got on my knees and prayed. It was one of the most sincere, faithful prayers I have ever said. I prayed for my country; I prayed that we would let God prevail and that somehow, through Him, our country could heal; I prayed for the Kirk family; and I prayed that I could see the hand of God in this tragedy.
I think about those moments on my knees a lot. And throughout this last year, I’ve found myself wondering if that prayer was answered. I’ve looked at the world we are living in and questioned if God heard me that night. I’ve watched the division, the anger and the hatred that still exist in our country and wondered how we could possibly heal after what I witnessed that day. There have been moments when it felt like we were moving further away from God, not closer to Him.
But then one day, I was standing on the side of a street on BYU’s campus, having challenging conversations with people. I was standing strong in what I believed, declaring the name of Jesus Christ to people who did not always agree with me. And I remember thinking: “this is the answer to that prayer.”
