USCCB Condemns ‘Mail-Order Abortion Industry,’ Calls for Prayer

Students emphasize importance of bishops’ exhortation.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) released a nationwide statement on August 18 calling for American Catholics to pray and act against the rising use of the abortion pill. Coinciding with Respect Life Month, the initiative spans through the end of October.

In its official statement, the USCCB identifies “easier access to abortion pills” as coinciding with a climbing national abortion rate and “increased health risks” for women, naming the Food and Drug Administration specifically as an enabler. 

“[The FDA] has enabled a nationwide mail-order abortion industry by allowing abortion pills to be prescribed in telehealth appointments and sold both at neighborhood pharmacies and online, circumventing state laws that protect life in the womb,” the statement read.
